Custom Ceilings & Box Beams from the Trees on the Property
When this customer came to us with the vision of using 1 inch live edge slabs on the ceiling of his expansive porch, we were curious how it would turn out. The wood was coming from the Red Oak trees on his land. The fact that live edge slabs can cup easily during the drying process presented our first challenge. With much care, we applied thousands of pounds of weight on top while it air dried and while in the kiln. The slabs came out of our Nyle kilns dead flat!
From there Harvest Custom scribed the boards to fit together on the ceiling. The finished result was not only fantastic, but very unique. Not too many folks have a ceiling that looks like this, and fewer still can say that the wood came from their own land. Harvest Custom also made the box beams using that same Red Oak from the property.
The Poplar Ceilings inside the home also came from the property. The White Oak columns outside were milled by us, but those logs came from local tree companies, not from the customer’s property.

Side Notes –
- Normally, we do the milling and kiln drying. In this case, however, we did not do the milling. It was done by Jason Watts at Watts Wood & Tractor Services, Inc. After he milled the logs, he brought us the slabs to stack and sticker, air and kiln dry.
