Log Covered in Fungus to Beautiful Lumber for furniture for Woodstock Millworks on Wood-Mizer LT40Wide Sawmill
We learned something from this log. When it was delivered to us, it still had some of its bark. By the time we got it on the mill, it had mostly fallen off and been destroyed by the fungus. This makes it very difficult to figure out what species of tree this is. We believe it was a water oak, which is a type of red oak. Allowing the wood to ‘spalt’ (which is caused by fungal growth) adds to the beauty of the wood, but I should have labeled the log when it was delivered to the property.
