We love a good challenge, and our recent milling job fell into this category. We started with about 50 logs and worked through them in about 32 hours over the course of three days. The challenge wasn’t the number of logs, or even in the tight space we had to work. It was the type of logs. We will actually milling the branches of a single, massive Live Oak tree. We had to search for sections that were straight, wide, and long enough to mill on the sawmill. For those logs that were not fit for milling (and there were many), we simply cut them up into firewood for the customer. For the logs we could mill, we milled them up into boards that were 1 and 1/8th inches thick. The customer plans on using the lumber to make custom cabinets, hardwood floors, and a barn door in the cabin he is building. This wood was absolutely beautiful. We cannot wait to see what the final product looks like. We are so happy that we could be part of our customer’s project.
