Helping to Build
We love to learn what a customer wants to build with the logs we mill. In this case, Colleen wanted to use the logs for all kinds of projects. She has big plans to help people who may have lost their way. She is building an environment where people can recenter themselves and develop a focused outcome for their life. Part of that healing requires nature, which is why she wanted to use the trees from her property to help create a nurturing environment.
We milled poplar for her to use in her basement as shiplap siding. We also milled a large red oak into live edge slabs for her to make bar and countertops in the recreation room of her basement. She also hopes to build shelving and tables. In another post, you can see the outdoor furniture we are building for her outdoor fire pit from the trees from her property.
Of course, the wood has to dry once it has been milled, so we set up some air drying stations to help the wood dry properly. Unfortunately, when wood has just been milled, it is still ‘green.’ Often water composes 50% of the live edge slab’s weight. Because of this, some of the slabs easily weighed 400 pounds, so we brought the tractor with us to help move the wood once it had been milled.
